Il Comando Centrale degli Stati Uniti ha annunciato di aver sferrato nuovi attacchi in Iran, in risposta a quelli che definisce “tentativi di attacchi iraniani contro le forze statunitensi” in Medio Oriente.
Il presidente degli Stati Uniti Donald Trump aveva precedentemente promesso di colpire l’Iran con la forza, dopo che l’Iran aveva lanciato missili contro una base militare statunitense in Giordania.
La Guardia Rivoluzionaria iraniana ha dichiarato che l’attacco a sorpresa di mercoledì contro la base aerea giordana di Muwaffaq Salti – un importante centro militare statunitense per la regione – è stato una risposta ai recenti attacchi statunitensi.
Parlando dallo Studio Ovale, il presidente degli Stati Uniti ha dichiarato che c’è ancora la possibilità di raggiungere un accordo negoziato con l’Iran, ma che per ora la sua attenzione è rivolta a garantire che gli attacchi iraniani non restino impuniti.
"It's our turn to hit them. They know it's coming. They're asking us not to do it, but, you know, they tried shooting it last night. So, we had five rockets going 8,500 miles an hour. And all five rockets were knocked down to the ground, but they, nevertheless, took a shot. So, it's our turn."
Nella sua revisione annuale dell’accordo governativo “Closing the Gap”, la Commissione per la Produttività ha constatato ancora una volta che i progressi sono in stallo.
Solo uno dei 19 obiettivi è in anticipo rispetto alla scadenza del 2031, mentre quattro settori chiave stanno peggiorando.
Il fallimento più grave nel percorso verso il “Closing the Gap” rimane quello della giustizia.
Il tasso di detenuti appartenenti alle First Nations è aumentato a oltre 2.500 ogni 100.000 adulti nel 2025, con lo Stato del Victoria come unico caso in cui si è registrato un miglioramento.
Anche i giovani delle First Nations sono sovrarappresentati nei centri di detenzione, con una media giornaliera di 25,7 minori tra i 10 e i 17 anni ogni 10.000 detenuti nel periodo compreso tra il 2024 e il 2025.
L'Autorità australiana per le comunicazioni e i media ha citato in giudizio Optus a causa del grave malfunzionamento del suo servizio di chiamata al numero "triplo zero" dello scorso settembre.
L'autorità di regolamentazione sosterrà dinanzi alla Corte federale che Optus Mobile ha violato due distinti obblighi di legge in oltre 1.000 occasioni.
Per oltre 12 ore, centinaia di persone non sono riuscite a contattare i numeri di emergenza e diversi decessi sono stati collegati all’interruzione del servizio.
Il secondo operatore di telecomunicazioni australiano potrebbe incorrere in multe fino a 250.000 dollari per ogni violazione.

** US launches fresh strikes on Iran following Iranian attack on Jordan base
** Closing the Gap progress stalls as justice targets worsen
United States Central Command says it has launched new strikes in Iran, in response to what it describes as 'attempted Iranian attacks on US forces’ in the Middle East.
US President Donald Trump earlier vowed to strike Iran with force, after Iran fired missiles at a US military base in Jordan.
Iran's Revolutionary Guard says Wednesday's surprise attack on Jordan’s Muwaffaq Salti Air Base- a key US military hub for the region-was in response to recent US strikes.
Speaking from the Oval Office, the US President says there is still a chance to reach a negotiated settlement with Iran, but for now, his attention is on ensuring Iran's strikes don't go unpunished.
"It's our turn to hit them. They know it's coming. They're asking us not to do it, but, you know, they tried shooting it last night. So, we had five rockets going 8,500 miles an hour. And all five rockets were knocked down to the ground, but they, nevertheless, took a shot. So, it's our turn."
In its annual review of the government's Closing the Gap agreement, the Productivity Commission has once again found that progress is stalled.
Just one of 19 targets have been ahead of the 2031 deadline, while four key areas are getting worse.
The biggest failure towards Closing the Gap remains justice.
The rate of First Nations Prisoners increased to more than 2500 per 100,000 adults in 2025, with Victoria the only state with improving rates.
First Nations youth are also over represented in detention, with 25.7 children between 10 and 17 per 10,000 detained on the average day between 2024 and 2025.
The Australian Communications and Media Authority is suing Optus over the extensive failure of its triple zero call service last September.
The regulator will allege in the Federal Court that Optus Mobile breached two separate legal obligations on more than 1,000 occasions.
Ove more than 12 hours, hundreds of callers were unable to reach emergency lines, with multiple deaths linked to the outage.
Australia's second-largest telecommunications could face fines of up to $250,000 per contravention.
