Le aspettative di un ulteriore aumento dei tassi d’interesse stanno crescendo dopo che la governatrice della Reserve Bank, Michele Bullock, ha avvertito che i rischi di inflazione sono sempre più orientati al rialzo.
Bullock è intervenuta oggi in occasione di un'audizione parlamentare, in vista della prossima decisione sui tassi d'interesse che il consiglio della Banca Centrale prenderà alla fine di questo mese.
Bullock ha affermato che l'inflazione rimane troppo alta e che i continui shock di offerta a livello globale rendono più difficile per la banca semplicemente ignorare le pressioni sui prezzi.
La governatrice ha aggiunto che i rischi che gravano sulle prospettive di inflazione stanno diventando sempre più sbilanciati.
"The risks are actually skewed to the upside in terms of inflation at the moment part of that is the worries about inflation expectations part it is the shocks coming down the supply shocks coming down stream at us not only from the middle east but also from weather related events and the demand things the risks all seem to be sitting on that upside there."
I mercati finanziari stanno attualmente prevedendo una percentuale del 95% di probabilità che vi sia un altro aumento dei tassi quando il consiglio della Banca Centrale si riunirà alla fine di questo mese.
Si teme che un uomo sia deceduto in seguito a un presunto attacco di squalo alla spiaggia di Sorrento, nella periferia nord di Perth.
I servizi di emergenza sono stati allertati questa mattina dopo che era stata segnalata la presenza di un nuotatore in difficoltà.
Secondo alcuni testimoni, al momento dell’attacco due uomini stavano nuotando, ma solo uno è riuscito a tornare a riva.
La spiaggia è stata chiusa durante l’intervento delle autorità sul posto.
Il segretario generale delle Nazioni Unite ha avvertito che le profonde divisioni globali stanno alimentando una crescente cultura dell’impunità, proprio mentre i leader mondiali si preparano a riunirsi a New York.
António Guterres ha dichiarato che i conflitti in Ucraina e in Medio Oriente stanno mettendo in luce l’incapacità del Consiglio di Sicurezza dell’ONU di agire quando sono coinvolte le grandi potenze.
L’Assemblea Generale rappresenta 193 Stati membri, con un elenco sempre più lungo di guerre e crisi internazionali all’ordine del giorno.
Guterres ha dichiarato che le violazioni del diritto internazionale da parte dei paesi più potenti stiano dando un esempio pericoloso.
"We have huge geopolitical divides and the Security Council is paralysed and we have systematic violations of international law, some of them by members of the security council, that obviously creates an environment of impunity because many countries say if superpowers can violate the law, why can't we?"

Expectations of another interest rate rise are surging after Reserve Bank Governor Michele Bullock warned the risks of inflation are increasingly on the upside.
Ms Bullock has been appearing before a parliamentary hearing today, ahead of the Reserve Bank board's next interest rate decision later this month.
She says inflation remains too high, with persistent global supply shocks making it harder for the bank to simply look through price pressures.
The Governor says the risks facing the inflation outlook are becoming increasingly one-sided.
"The risks are actually skewed to the upside in terms of inflation at the moment part of that is the worries about inflation expectations part it is the shocks coming down the supply shocks coming down stream at us not only from the middle east but also from weather related events and the demand things the risks all seem to be sitting on that upside there."
Financial markets are now pricing in a 95 per cent chance of another rate rise when the Reserve Bank board meets later this month.
A man is feared dead after a suspected shark attack at Sorrento Beach in Perth's northern suburbs.
Emergency services were called to the beach this morning after reports of a swimmer in distress.
Witnesses say two men had been swimming when the attack occurred, but only one returned to shore.
The beach has been closed while authorities respond to the incident.
The United Nations chief has warned deep global divisions are creating a growing culture of impunity as world leaders prepare to gather in New York.
António Guterres says conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East are exposing the inability of the UN Security Council to act when major powers are involved.
The General Assembly represents 193 member nations, with a growing list of wars and international crises on the agenda.
Mr Guterres says violations of international law by powerful countries are setting a dangerous example.
