Il Queensland settentrionale si sta preparando al ritorno del ciclone tropicale Iris.
La tempesta di categoria 2 si è rafforzata lungo la costa dello stato, con venti di burrasca preannunciati da Ayr a Mackay e un allarme meteorologico che è stato emesso tra Townsville e Mackay.
Mentre non ci si aspetta che la tempesta tocchi la costa, si prevede che avrà tuttavia un impatto significativo. I residenti sono stati ammoniti a prepararsi e a non guidare per evitare strade inondate.
Secondo Alana Pasteur, area controller per i servizi di emergenza del Queensland a Mackay, le autorità sono pronte ad ogni evenienza.
"We have flood boat and swiftwater crews stationed all up the coast, from Cairns down to Rockhampton. And in the Mackay area, we have crews stationed particularly in Airlie Beach, Proserpine, and Mackay."

Gi artificeri della polizia del Queensland hanno smantellato un ordigno esplosivo artigianale nel parcheggio di un centro commerciale a Ipswich, alle porte di Brisbane, che secondo la polizia avrebbe potuto causare vittime.
Un uomo di 37 anni e una donna di 31 anni sono stati incriminati dopo che un contenitore di vetro contenente un liquido esplosivo e altri componenti non specificati sono stati trovati in una scatola di cartone all'interno della loro auto.
La polizia è stata chiamata quando la coppia è stata vista agire in modo sospetto.
Il vice capo della polizia del Queensland Brett Pointing ha dichiarato che non è chiaro quali fossero le motivazioni delle due persone coinvolte, ma è improbabile che l'incidente abbia legami con i Commonwealth Games.
"These sort of things happen all the time and I can say that it is unconnected to the Games in any way. It is under full investigation, some people are in custody. We know what is happening there and we are very comfortable there is no issue there."

"It all gets down to inflation. Inflation's under control. Wages remain low. Our economy is travelling okay, doesn't need any more stimulus, doesn't need to be slowed down at present."
Secondo James è possibile che i tassi restino inalterati fino al 2020.

Le siringhe trovate nel villaggio degli atleti ai Commonwealth Games sono state usate per curare un pugile indiano malato. Lo ha dichiarato un allenatore della squadra.
L'associazione indiana dei Giochi del Commonwealth è stata convocata per un incontro con i dirigenti lunedì pomeriggio, dopo che le siringhe sono state scoperte da un addetto alle pulizie.
L'amministratore delegato della Federazione dei Giochi David Grevemberg ha confermato che un rapporto preliminare ha stabilito che vi è stata una "chiara violazione" delle regole del villaggio.
La Federazione ha reso noto che la questione verrà discussa questa mattina nel corso di una riunione del Tribunale della Federazione. I Giochi prendono il via domani.

Parts of Queensland are bracing for Tropical Cyclone Iris.
The category two storm has strengthened along the state's coast, with gale force winds being predicted from Ayr to Mackay, and a severe weather warning being issued for between Townsville and Mackay.
Whilst the storm is not expected to cross the coast, it is expected to have significant impact, with residents being warned to be prepared, and not drive through floodwaters.
Alana Pasteur is the Area Controller for the Queensland State Emergency Service in Mackay.
She's told the Nine Network authorities are prepared over a wide area.
"We have flood boat and swiftwater crews stationed all up the coast, from Cairns down to Rockhampton. And in the Mackay area, we have crews stationed particularly in Airlie Beach, Proserpine, and Mackay."

Bomb squad officers have dismantled a crude explosive device in the car park of a Queensland shopping centre at Ipswich that police say could have caused serious injuries.
A 37-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman have been charged after a large glass jar containing an explosive liquid and other unspecified components were found in a cardboard box inside their car.
Police were called when they were seen acting suspiciously.
Queensland Deputy Commissioner Brett Pointing says its unclear yet what the motives were of the two people involved.
"These sort of things happen all the time and I can say that it is unconnected to the Games in any way. It is under full investigation, some people are in custody. We know what is happening there and we are very comfortable there is no issue there."

The Reserve Bank is expected to again leave official interest rates at their present level.
The board of the nation's central bank will hold its usual monthly meeting today.
Slow wages growth, particularly in the private sector, is expected to be the main reason for the official interest rate being left at 1.5 percent, if that indeed transpires.
Craig James is the chief economist for stockbroking firm CommSec.
He says overall economic conditions in Australia at the moment aren't those that generally lead to a rate rise or fall.
"It all gets down to inflation. Inflation's under control. Wages remain low. Our economy is travelling okay, doesn't need any more stimulus, doesn't need to be slowed down at present."
Mr James says it is realistic that the official interest rate may not change until 2020.

Needles found at the Commonwealth Games athletes' village were used to treat a sick Indian boxer, a team coach has revealed.
The Indian Commonwealth Games Association was summoned to a meeting with Games officials on Monday afternoon, days after needles were discovered by a cleaner near where the team's boxers are staying.
Commonwealth Games Federation chief executive David Grevemberg has confirmed a preliminary report had determined there was a "clear breach" of the village's no-needles policy.
The Commonwealth Games Federation advised the matter had been escalated to a meeting of the CGF's Federation Court on Tuesday morning.
