Hazara Singh Ramta, Punjabi Folk Legend, Dies at 91

Renowned Punjabi singer, Hazara Singh Ramta has died at 91. He passed away last night in Brampton, Canada.

Hazara Singh Ramta was a versatile Punjabi folk artist who will be remembered for his witty lyrics.

Born in Sahiwal, Punjab (now in Pakistan) on August 1, 1926, Ramta had life-long singing fame that started in 1960s’.

Ramta started his singing career in 1952 with All India Radio and His Masters Voice (HMV).

He was not only a singer but also a poet and a comedian.

Ramta will be remembered for his solo witty songs, including - Ramta Actor Ho Gaya, Ramta Africa Wich, Ramta Bhulekha Kha Gaya, Ramta Bombai Wich, Ramta Meman Wich, Ramta Navin Dilli Wich, Ramta Shaher Wich, Ramta Teshan Te, Ramte Da Dooja Viah - the list goes on.

A true Punjabi folk artist has left behind an enduring legacy.

His funeral will take place on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at Brampton Crematorium & Visitation Center in Canada.
