A taxi driver from Brisbane's suburb of Holmview has been hailed as a ‘Good Samaritan’ as he returned a lost bag to a grateful family.
The bag belonged to a couple, who had driven off their car, without realising that the bag was on the roof.
Atambeer Singh saw this bag as it fell and made efforts for its return despite all odds.
Singh along with his family went to deliver this lost bag after they tracked down the owner via Facebook.
“They wanted to pick it up. But we told them that we’ll come to deliver it. It’s our duty,” said Mr Singh in an interview with SBS Punjabi.
“They were so happy to get this bag back. They wanted to give us reward. But we told them that all we need is their blessing.”
“The gentleman was so impressed that he gave my daughter Rabnoor Kaur a packet full of money. To our surprise it was $3000 in cash.”
“As a taxi driver, we come across so many belonging that need to be returned to their rightful owners. To make this return was a routine thing. Importantly, it was someone’s hard earned money and I had a duty of care to make sure that it reaches back.”
“I didn’t do it for reward. It was straight from heart.... a sacred duty that every person should commit to do.”
“The bag contained an iPad, a folder filled with bank statements and documents and an envelope containing a bundle of $50 notes, totalling $6,000.”
