A family of three and a housemate had an eventful escape in a house fire at Ashfield, NSW.
Tej Thapa, his wife Shanti and their 4 year old son Shirish had a heroic escape in this blaze that caused significant damage to the premises.
Emergency services were called to Cavill Avenue in Ashfield following reports that a house was on fire.
According to Seven News, Tej was the first to leap out of the window. He severely injured his right leg in this desperate escape attempt.
His wife, Shanti had to think quickly to drop her young son five meters into the arms of a heroic neighbour, Yam Dhital.
“I came here and they throw the baby from there and I grabbed him immediately,” Yam Dhital told 7 News after bravely rescuing four year old Shirish.
“I’m not a hero but I saved his life.”
The Thapa family and their roommate were treated at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for minor smoke inhalation.Tej Thapa underwent surgery on his broken leg.
The cause of the fire is unknown and still under investigation.
