Health authorities in Western Australia have confirmed the death of a 78 year-old male from COVID-19.

This is the first case of a person dying on Australian soil from coronavirus. The deceased was a passenger on the Diamond Princess that was quarantined for weeks at the Yokohama wharf in Japan, and he and his wife were returned to Australia on a chartered flight and quarantined at a facility in the Northern Territory. His wife has also been infected by the virus, and reports are she is in a stable condition at the same hospital where husband died.
