Через такі пісні, як «Пам’ятай, я вірю в тебе» та «4.5.0.», проект поєднує традиційну музику, класичні струнні аранжування та реальні свідчення сімей, які шукають своїх викрадених дітей.

Марічка також розповідає про свій шлях від активістки під час Революції Гідності до медика на передовій та глобальної культурної захисниці України. Вона пояснює, чому музика може стати свідком війни, формою опору та способом збереження пам’яті, коли національна ідентичність зазнає нападу.

WOMADelaide – the World Of Music Arts & Dance in Adelaide. A music and human rights project, Daughters of Donbas — Songs of Stolen Children exists to highlight the plight of at least 20,000 Ukranian children abducted from occupied Ukraine and taken to Russia. Singer, musician, human rights advocate and war correspondent, Marichka is the powerful voice of the project, in which she performs with a string quartet. She is a former member of Canadian folk ensembles Lemon Bucket Orkestra and Balaklava Blues and has performed at Carnegie Hall, the Barbican Centre and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and won an Amnesty International Prize. Drawing on Ukrainian folk music, Marichka uses the traditional technique of ‘white voice’, characterised by its bright, loud and clear sound, produced with an open throat.

WOMADelaide, Australia’s most loved world music festival is more commonly associated with high-energy performances and cross-cultural dance music, but Daughters of Donbas demonstrates the festival programmers’ courage and an ability to host a more reflective artistic experience that reminds us music can be a witness to change, awareness and political activism. This is Marichka’s second WOMADelaide performance. Previously she appeared with the Canadian trio Balaklava Blues that had a strong focus on percussion and pounding dance rhythms – but for Daughters of Donbas the focus is on compelling lyrics and a message set to lusciously rich classical string arrangements.

The Daughters of Donbas “Songs of Stolen Children” was an emotionally charged and poignant set that combined traditional song and bandura with classical string instrumentation that became a powerful space for a reflection on contemporary conflict, displacement and cultural survival. There was purpose and message in every song and narrative that carried the weight of real-life stories of real people affected by this brutal war of invasion designed to destroy Ukrainian identity. The Daughters of Donbas offered an appreciative WOMADelaide audience a rare and unforgettable stillness in which to listen to the voices of all the daughters of Donbas whose children have been stolen and sent to Russian filtration camps. She declared that every single one of us is a metaphoric daughter of Donbas whose mission should be to save and protect all children brutalized by unconscionable war.
