Especially with the growing use of artificial intelligence (AI), these challenges are evolving rapidly. In this context, an important national campaign is being launched in Australia, aimed at engaging children, parents, and teachers in creating a safe and responsible online world.

This is National eSmart Week, organised by the Alannah & Madeline Foundation. In this regard, we spoke with Mitch Groenewald, who works on digital safety programs at the foundation.

Initiatives aim to provide children with a safe, positive, and balanced online experience. The foundation categorises online risks into four main types:

• Contact: Unnecessary or risky interaction with strangers
• Content: Harmful or misleading material
• Compulsion: Imbalance in screen time
• Conduct: Online behaviour and responsibility
