A free swimming program called “Swim for Refugees” is running in Perth for migrants and refugees arriving in Australia, with all services delivered by volunteers. According to community coordinator Rida Malik, women are taught to swim in fully private, women-only sessions designed around their cultural and traditional needs. Afghan-born Saima Rahmani is among the women who came to Australia as a refugee and learned to swim through these classes. She says the program has been highly beneficial for women.
