Emily Walter, National Census spokesperson for the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), says there have been no reported cases of scams or fraud linked to the Census so far. However, she says people can protect themselves from potential scammers by following some simple safety advice.
Walter reiterated that the ABS will never ask for your bank details, Tax File Number (TFN) or passwords. She added that if anyone receives suspicious information or suspects a scam, they should immediately contact the ABS via its website, the Census Contact Centre or the ABS Survey Contact Centre. The ABS will also publish information about any confirmed Census-related scams on its website.
