During April, NITV delivered to audiences an unprecedented number of stories of the Centenary of Anzac from an Indigenous Australian perspective.

Our ANZAC-focused programs ranged from documentary to drama, and current affair discussions to coverage of events by our news and online teams.

The stories highlighted experience from the Frontier Wars, Boer and World Wars, to the Korean and Vietnam wars, and more recent conflicts, including in Afghanistan, and peace missions.

Our ambition was to ensure the stories of our First Nations were not forgotten in this year’s moment of Australian recognition and commemoration for those who have served for our country.

We did hear from viewers questioning our coverage. However, I am overwhelmed by the messages of thanks NITV has received for its coverage.

"I don't usually pass comment on "TV shows" - or even watch them for that matter - however I thought this was an exceptional program (Awaken) at a very appropriate time. The panel was "genuine", "informed" and "down to earth". All should be commended for their efforts and for 'saying it as it is'," Facebook user Jamie Crandell commented on the above post.

I too have learnt so much about my country and peoples from those who so openly gave their stories to NITV.

Our channel remains committed to telling all Indigenous stories, particularly those that many Australians are yet to realise.

Thank you for sharing and being a part of NITV’s special month to honour our diggers.
