Former Australian Human Rights Commission president Gillian Triggs has called the government's treatment of Manus Island detainees "inhumane".

The last of about 300 men refusing to leave the now-closed detention facility were forcibly removed two weeks ago, ending a tense three-week stand-off.

They joined hundreds of others already moved to alternative accommodation sites.

Ms Triggs says the Australian government needs to allow these refugees to enter Australia. But Liberal Senator Eric Abetz has told the A-B-C, those who find themselves in detenton should not be able to choose their settlement country.
