Dr Kamran Shaukat, a Senior Lecturer at Torrens University, says artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming the world of work. However, he believes AI is not only eliminating some jobs but also creating new employment opportunities. In this interview, he discusses the benefits, challenges and safe use of AI for everyday people.
According to Dr Kamran Shaukat, artificial intelligence is automating many routine tasks, such as data entry, responding to emails and scheduling, which may reduce demand for some jobs. At the same time, however, it is creating new career opportunities in fields such as machine learning engineering, cybersecurity analysis and AI development.
He said AI has already become part of everyday life, with tools such as Google Assistant, Google Maps and personalised social media recommendations all powered by the technology. Dr Shaukat warned that skills gaps, privacy and data security, and the spread of misinformation are among AI's biggest challenges. He advised against relying blindly on AI, particularly for immigration, financial or legal matters. According to Dr Shaukat, the future of AI will depend on how responsibly and ethically it is developed and used.
