Shiroz Siraj, a young man who has created a unique identity for himself as the “Tree Man of Pakistan,” believes that Pakistan is facing the dangerous consequences of climate change — something he witnesses with his own eyes every day. Rising temperatures, unusual weather patterns, and natural disasters disturbed him so deeply that he decided to take action on his own. To fight climate change, he has so far planted more than one hundred thousand trees.

The “Tree Man of Pakistan” believes that through tree plantation, we can not only reduce the impacts of climate change but also rebuild and strengthen our ecosystem. In his view, every tree planted on earth is a message of life — not just for humans, but also for animals and birds.

Standing alone and driven by a firm resolve to protect Pakistan from climate change, the young activist says that if the country is to be saved from the devastating consequences of climate change, large-scale tree plantation is essential.

Shiroz Siraj further says that he has so far planted more than one hundred thousand trees and is also developing an artificial forest in the city of Karachi, Pakistan. According to the Tree Man of Pakistan, he began this campaign in his own neighbourhood. Initially, people were reluctant even to water the plants, but alongside plantation efforts, he also focuses on raising public awareness — and those efforts are now producing positive results. This report for SBS Urdu was presented from Pakistan by Ehsan Khan.
