Many migrant women put their own health behind family responsibilities and social expectations. Psychologist Shagufta Alam says that a simple 15 to 20-minute daily walk can improve physical health, mental wellbeing, and overall quality of life. She emphasises that self-care is not selfish, but essential for a healthy life.
Psychologist Shagufta Alam says many women grow up without seeing regular exercise or walking modelled by older generations, which can make physical activity seem less important.
Shagufta Alam says family and community support can play a key role in helping women lead more active lives. She notes that making walking a shared family routine or joining local walking groups can make healthy habits easier to maintain.
