During the FIFA World Cup season, Lyari in Karachi comes alive and cannot be ignored. Streets are filled with flags, walls painted with football stars, and preparations for match screenings are in full swing. Football here is not just a game, but a deep-rooted passion. Here’s what we observed in Lyari’s vibrant World Cup atmosphere.
Lyari, a historic neighbourhood in Karachi, is widely known as Pakistan’s football heartland, often called “Mini Brazil.” During the FIFA World Cup season, its narrow streets come alive with flags, colours, and celebrations.

Walls are painted with football stars, and communities set up large screens for collective match viewing. Even without a national team in the tournament, football here remains a deep-rooted, generational passion.
It is impossible to discuss World Cup fever in Pakistan without mentioning Lyari’s unique atmosphere. The neighbourhood turns into a vibrant festival of sport, identity, and community spirit every four years.
