Foreign Minister Penny Wong has been asked by Australian journalists if she or the prime minister would raise human rights and media intimidation and censorship in India. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese will soon travel to India to meet Narendra Modi, viewed by critics as an authoritarian Hindu nationalist, closely following trips to the country by Senator Wong and Treasurer Jim Chalmers.
