Legendary Punjabi singer and actor Gurdas Maan has returned to the big screen with another emotional yet power-pack performance in a new Punjabi film ‘Nankana’.

Talking exclusively to SBS Punjabi, Gurdas Mann said that the film deals with the religious turmoil of Punjab’s most disturbed 1947 partition era.

“The movie is full of emotions. It captures the painful era between 1942- 1947. The story tries to tell the truth that we’re still struggling to accept,” said Mr Mann.

“The film is based on the powerful and strong bond between father and his son ‘Nankana’. I played the role of a teacher who spreads the message of love, peace and communal harmony.

“It was a challenge to bring the best out of our team. But I am glad that it worked well and we came up with such a fantastic effort.

“I am hopeful that people will not only like this movie but also the message that we’re trying to deliver.

While talking about his gigantic career in the music industry, Gurdas Mann said that through his songs he tried to incorporate and highlight the social issues of the society.

“The good songs are those that are listened by heart and not only by ears… and it can only happen if they have a message to deliver.”

While talking about his song ‘Punjab’, he said that there’ve been some serious concerns over the menace of drugs in Punjab.

Punjab vassdaa Guraan de naa tae… I wish our youngsters a good health and a better future that is not shadowed by issues like drugs,” he says.

The movie trailer has been instilled with feelings of compassion, love, innocence, benevolence, empathy, and many other sentimental aspects.

The poster itself says ‘Above the religion’ despite being named after a holy pilgrimage of the Sikhs, Nankana Sahib, which is a city and capital of Nankana Sahib District in the Punjab province of Pakistan.
