You were one of so many councillors who went to Bondi after the attack to pay tribute to the victims.

And now the question is, how can we as as Australians, as local communities turn moments like this into lasting habits of bringing us closer together, moments of compassion to extend beyond one day of mourning. What can you think of in this context?

We should launch initiatives to bring people together. I

feel like real change happens when, um, compassion becomes a part of everyday life. So whether it's checking in on neighbours, supporting local services, attending community events, and having, um, that respect, uh, respectful conversations, um, even when views differ.

Local communities can lead by creating spaces where people feel seen, heard, and connected, not just today but every day. That's what I feel.

Um, Rochelle, our social cohesion is under the spectrum today, under the spotlight for some of, some Australians, they may feel shaken, others anxious or unfairly blamed or even targeted, and there are fears of restrictions today on freedom of expression.

What role do you specifically play as local councils and leaders like yourself in reassuring people that belonging, safety and unity will remain core Australian values no matter what?

I want to make this very, very clear, so everyone belongs here.

No one should feel blamed for the actions of an individual. Safety, respect, and inclusion are core Australian values in my belief. We work closely with community leaders, faith groups, and authorities to reassure residents.

And if anyone wants to play their part in recognising, you know, to join in with the national day of mourning, so at 7:01 p.m.
