US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has expressed his condolences to Al-Jazeera's chief correspondent in Gaza, Wael al-Dahdouh and his colleagues after Israeli airstrikes killed his son alongside another freelance reporter in Gaza.

An Israeli airstrike killed the two freelance reporters near Rafah in Southern Gaza.

New federal legislation has now come into effect making it illegal to perform the Nazi salute in public, or display or trade in Nazi hate symbols.

The legislation passed parliament on December 6.

It makes it a criminal offence to publicly display prohibited symbols - and trade items bearing these symbols, including those used by the Nazis and the Islamic State group.

Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus says the laws ensure no one in Australia will be allowed to glorify or profit from acts and symbols that celebrate the Nazis and their evil ideology.

Dvir Abramovich is the chairman of the Anti-Defamation Commission, he told channel Nine there has been a sudden uptick in the online sale of items bearing Nazi symbolism.

"I am sickened and disgusted by the rush to auction these blood stained items, and I have no doubt that white supremacists and Neo-nais will be buying these items. Not just to showcase them in their homes but also to recruit new members."

A new report reveals fewer than one in four GP clinics will bulk bill every patient who walks through the door.

By bulk billing, doctors bill Medicare instead of the patient, so there is no out-of-pocket cost for a visit to the doctor.

A total of 514 clinics across Australia that bulk billed all patients at the start of the year had stopped by November 2023.

Online healthcare directory Cleanbill contacted more than 6,800 clinics across Australia for its report, finding that the national bulk billing rate for doctors accepting new patients now sits at 24.2 per cent.

Average out of pocket costs for a GP visit are highest in NSW, ACT and Tasmania.

The Golden Globes has launched Hollywood's award season, and this year it has a brand-new look after the implementation of key reforms.

It comes after a 2021 Los Angeles Times report revealed ethical lapses and a lack of diversity among the members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association who were able to cast votes.

The 2022 ceremony was scrapped while the organisation made reforms.

The reforms include a voting body of 300 journalists from 75 countries with 60 per cent racial and ethnic diversity.

As stars flock to the red carpet, the movies "Barbie" and "Oppenheimer" are expected to make big wins as the films that have received the most nominations for this year's awards.

Matilda's manager Tony Gustavsson says the A-C-L injury of star striker Sam Kerr is a devastating blow to the team and that the focus now will be on her rehabilitation.

The world champion suffered an injury to her A-C-L during a training camp in Morocco and is almost certainly ruled out of playing at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

In her absence, players like Mary Fowler, Caitin Foord and Emily van Egmond will be among central striker options, along with emerging attacker Amy Sayer.
