Perhimpunan Indonesia is celebrating Australia Day on Saturday 24th January with a multi-cultural event in West Ryde, Sydney.
In an interview with SBS Indonesian, Ms Gustinia Dauner as Community Council Chair of the Indonesian Association of New South Wales explained the plans for Australia Day celebrations to be held on 24 January 2026 at Ryde Multicultural Centre, West Ryde.
The event, which runs from 10 am to 4 pm, aims to introduce Indonesia's cultural richness to the wider community through various activities such as traditional dance performances, regional fashion shows, as well as Indonesian culinary offerings adapted to the local tongue.
This year's celebration carries the theme of reflection, integrity and unity in diversity as a form of appreciation for the value of multiculturalism in Australia.

Ms Nia also stressed the importance of Australia Day for the Indonesian community as a moment to honour history and strengthen intercultural ties that have been established over the centuries, including the historical relationship between Makassar sailors and Indigenous Australians (First Nations).

Through his personal experience as a recipient of the Australian of the Year award for his 20 years of dedication to promoting culture, he encourages newly settled Indonesians to continue to maintain unity and mutual appreciation for differences.

The event is expected to be a forum for the Indonesian community to contribute positively while showing gratitude for the Australian state's support of the arrivals.
