Heather Osland spent more than nine years in jail after a jury in 1996 found her guilty of the murder of her husband Frank Osland. The court heard evidence – most of which the judge accepted – about Frank’s many years of 'violent beatings" and 'very violent threats with firearms". But the jury rejected Heather’s defences of self-defence and provocation. The judge said 'whilst Frank Osland was a cruel and violent man... his life nevertheless had value and the taking of it was a full pre-meditated act done by you."
